There are big productions in adult...and then there is Sex City. With a huge cast (mostly foreign talent), a huge budget, and a huge amount of sex (Part One of this trilogy clocks in at 3 hours and features 10 sex scenes), Private and Director Pierre Woodman have really outdone themselves. It’s still early in the year, but Sex City just might be the best thing we’ll see from the industry in 2006.
The movie “borrows” much of the storyline of Frank Miller’s Sin City, including the clever use of black & white photography, with splashes of color inserted throughoutmore…. Those worried about watching sex in black & white need not worry, since Woodman smartly goes back and forth between color and black & white during the sex – so viewers get to see all of the positions in both formats.
Not only is the concept well-done, but the sex is downright fantastic – and shouldn’t disappoint even the most jaded of porn viewers. There’s anal in all of the movie’s boy/girl segments – and even the one lesbian scene features anal penetration with sex toys.
Like the mainstream Sin City film, the timeline of events is a bit skewed, and we jump back and forth between characters stories – namely that of Bleck (played by Reda Semlahen), who has recently got out of prison; and Logan (Vince Willis), a cop who gets shot when he tracks down a kidnapper.
The movie opens with a sex scene on a balcony between blonde Lucy Anne and James Brossman. Lucy is cheating on her husband, but little does she know that James has been hired by him to kill her. Before he carries out his task, however, he has a little fun with Lucy out on the balcony – including plowing her behind in the reverse cowgirl position.
One of the best scenes is the second one, where hot blonde Wildy plays a hooker who seduces a cop played by Rodboy into an encounter up against and in the backseat of his convertible. Here, and in many of the other scenes, Woodman uses an occasional POV angle with the girl that really makes the sex appealing for the home viewer. This, of course, isn’t the first time POV has been used in a feature, but it’s one of the first times I’ve seen it used so extensively in a Private production.
Most of the scenes in Sex City feature one-on-one boy/girl action, but there are a few exceptions. The fifth scene is a threesome by a pool with blonde Justine Ashley, brunette Victorie Rose and Philippe Soine; and the final scene in the movie is another threesome – this time with Xenia Lova (looking great in some sexy black thigh-highs), Reda Semlahen and Alain Deloin. There’s also a girl/girl/girl scene with Afrodite Night, Nella and Susanne that turns into a girl/girl when Afrodite leaves the trio to join Reda for their own boy/girl action.
Although this is Part One of a trilogy, the movie ends properly and even though it’s obvious the story is going to continue, you never get the feeling that you haven’t seen a complete movie (as has been the case with many of Private’s other multi-part endeavors).
As far as the DVD specs are concerned, this release has a really nice anamoprhic transfer that widescreen TV owners should enjoy. Because the movie is dubbed from its original language into English, the 2.0 Dolby suffers a bit, but frequent buyers of Private titles should be used to this (is it overkill for me to plead one more time that Private start offering the original language with English subtitles as an option?).
Disc One of this 2-Disc release contains the 3-hour movie, a chapter selection and a language/subtitle option (for the record, the languages are English, French, Dutch, Spanish and Italian – with subtitles for Netherlands, Portuguese and Greek). Disc Two contains all of the bonus material, starting with a 21-minute Making Of segment. Then there’s Behind The Scenes footage (more raw and less “glossy” than the Making Of segment) that runs a whopping 60-minutes in length. There’s also a shorter 4 ½ minute featurette on the making of Sex City.
Other bonus features on Disc Two include a 31-minute interview session with Pierre Woodman; 5 minutes worth of Bloopers; a 4-minute music clip; and the teaser trailer for Sex City. Also includes are profiles for the girls; five additional trailers for other Private releases; and a few Private advertisements.
This is really a top-notch effort by Private and one of the best adult flicks you’re going to see this year. Don’t hesitate to pick it up...you’ll be glad you did.
