Description
There’s been a lot of anticipation surrounding the release of Forbidden Tales, the special effects-heavy production from Digital Playground. Fortunately, the movie manages to live up to its hype, offering some cool computer generated material and some equally hot sex scenes, four of which feature everyone’s favorite porn star, the lovely Tera Patrick.
The movie opens either in Earth’s future or on another world (the movie never specifies which) where we see a sickly old man (or possibly an alien…the character is computer generated) who is being taken care of by Tera. Asmore… on the box cover for the movie, Tera’s character does indeed have a mechanical hand…although the viewer never really finds out how or why she has one. Nevertheless, it makes for some mighty cool viewing as Tera brushes her hair back with a hand that isn’t hers…or (later in the film), smoking a cigarette with it.
The old man/alien asks Tera to tell him some stories, and so Ms. Patrick becomes our host for a series of six “Forbidden Tales”, four of which she is featured in. Other than Tera, all of the actors and actresses are European and none had been seen previously by this reviewer. Unfortunately, the credits do not attach the character names to any of the actors, so it would be a guess as to which names go with which performer.
The first tale is one with Tera (who plays “Lyra”) and a guy who is playing “Julian”. The format for the rest of the sex scenes in Forbidden Tales is set up in this very first segment, with a cool computer generated special effects shot (this particular scene shows “Julian” riding in on something that closely resembles a Taun-Taun from The Empire Strikes Back).
In Tera’s best scene (in this reviewer’s humble opinion), she is confined to the stocks (the medieval punishment where a person’s head and hands are locked between two pieces of wood) and a guard comes up behind her and starts fondling her while she is still confined. This leads to a wild coupling between the two…but don’t worry, Tera is set free for a while so she can use her highly skilled hands and lips on the lucky guard!
While the sex is erotic and fun to watch, people may be talking about the effects in Forbidden Tales as much as they are talking about the performances. Some of the computer generated shots are quite well done, and while they do not rival anything you’ve seen from ILM, they do match up favorably with special effects you’ve seen on your favorite television show and even some lower-budget mainstream features.
Tera also gets a chance to do some acting in this movie, and she delivers her lines quite nicely. Considering she is acting with a special effect rather than a real live person, extra credit has to go to Tera for making her dialogue come off as realistic and believable.
The bonus features on this disc include a nice audio commentary by Tera and producer Samantha Lewis, in which Tera provides a lot of insight about the shoot…and keeps commenting on how cute she thought all the actors were! There’s also a funny (although far too short) behind the scenes segment, which is basically full of bloopers and outtakes from the set. You’ll also get a slide show and a photo gallery, which are made up of the same pictures, but give you the option of viewing them one by one with your remote, or sitting back and enjoying the show.
As is typical with all Digital Playground DVDs, the audio and video are top-notch, which makes the special effects particularly enjoyable to watch.
I suspect that Forbidden Tales’ biggest audience will be from those fans who enjoy Adam & Eve or Andrew Blake-type porn, and are looking for a period piece with some nice visuals and attractive actors and actresses. Like Island Fever before it, this is another excellent title that will really appeal to the couples market, and shows that adult productions may not be all that far away from competing with the mainstream. Tera fans, likewise, will also want to add this title to their permanent collections, as the queen of porn is stunning in four erotic segments that are sure to please her many fans.
