In addition to being an adult classic, Aunt Peg also works as warm piece of nostalgia set in a time when teenagers (such as Peg’s niece) adorned their walls with Kiss posters and reveled in the weekly antics of that rainbow suspender wearing alien, Mork from Ork. If the peripheral elements don’t readily communicate the era, the upscale production values and an emphasis on a story should. Anthony Spinelli wrote and directed the film in 1979 under the pseudonym Wes Brown, just one of many aliases Spinelli used throughout his expansive career and the same name he used for the film’smore… sequel, Aunt Peg’s Fulfillment.
Forty-one year old Juliet Anderson (a relative newbie to the San Francisco porn scene) was chosen for the title role, and in retrospect the casting couldn’t have been any better. This wasn’t Juliet Anderson’s first adult film, but after its release her name and "Aunt Peg" became synonymous. Much like Kay Parker in Taboo, Juliet’s strong performance as a sexually confident older woman transcended the confines of the narrative and struck a chord with fans. The "Aunt Peg" persona created for this film followed her for the rest of her career as she reprised the role in several sequels and crossovers.
The opening film introduces Peg as a successful adult film producer whose movies aren’t any more decadent or promiscuous than her own life. As the film opens, she’s directing a sex scene between John Holmes and Holly McCall. When she calls a cut for a lunch break, Holly and John stay behind, continuing the action while the crew vacates the set. Meanwhile, Peg inspects another set with her nerdy production assistant, taking the opportunity to “rehearse” an upcoming seduction scene with him. There’s some nice parallel cutting between the two scenes; something rarely seen in modern features. For example, while Holly takes John’s legendary cock up her ass, Peg is in the middle of a funky looking reverse pile-driver in another part of the studio. Showing the progression of both scenes makes things much more interesting and works to curb any sense of repetition.
The same effective formula is used in one of the following scenes as Peg remembers the last time she visited her niece. While she seduces her brother-in-law, her niece Sheila (a very young Sharon Kane) walks in on them but stays hidden. She gets really horny watching her father and aunt go at it so she leaves and drags her boyfriend into her bedroom so she can suck his cock. Watching Sheila take charge (like her aunt) is really hot; she frantically pulls her boyfriend’s pants down as if she’s starving for air and his cock is the only source of oxygen. From there the action cuts between the two scenes as both Peg and her niece get their fair share of cock.
Back in the present, Peg is in pre-production for a new film. When the famous Italian director Franco (Jamie Gillis) arrives, he feels it necessary to inspect the cast, in particular Seka. Peg looks on while Franco feels Seka’s breasts but insists on joining in once the action gets more heated. After countless positions, Juliet and Seka kiss while Jamie jerks his goo across their faces…great scene! There’s some more three-way action when Mike Ranger comes into Peg’s office to read for a part. Instead of reading lines, Peg takes him over to a couch and goes down on him. Serena eventually joins the fun making for another great scene.
It’s not till the end of the film that Sheila finally flies out to California to visit her aunt. When she arrives, Peg and her driver meet her at the airport. On the way home Sheila and Peg catch up on things in the backseat; Peg is surprised to see how fully grown her sixteen year old niece looks. Sheila proudly shows off her developing breasts to her aunt, but is a bit reluctant when Peg wants to see her pussy. But Peg quickly puts her at ease by rubbing her niece’s clit and licking away at her tender folds. After coming Sheila returns the favor while Peg instructs her how to eat pussy. Perhaps it’s Sheila’s cries of, “Oh, Aunt Peg!” which make this scene so damn hot. But the actual age difference between Juliet Anderson and Sharon Kane (probably in her early 20s here) also makes it very credible. Unfortunately the film ends after this scene, but the story continues in the sequel.
NuTech’s DVD transfer of Aunt Peg looks good, but it’s not their best. This is mainly attributed to the condition of the film print. While the print exhibits plenty of scratches and other imperfections, the actual digital transfer is quite crisp. There are a few instances of pixelation, but nothing too noticeable. The audio also shows some signs of aging, but as presented, still gets the job done. I really wished Nu Tech would consider beefing up their extras in the same way I-Candy or VCA does. A commentary (or at least an interview) with Juliet Anderson or Sharon Kane would have been great, but all that’s here is a slide show and the usual trailers on the disc’s flip side.
Unlike some classics, Aunt Peg manages to provide plenty of credible hardcore scenes without the liability of a distracting or over ambitious story line. Juliet Anderson’s performance as "Aunt Peg" is truly something to behold, as is Sharon Kane’s turn as a sexually adventurous teenager. If you’re at all interested in 70s porn this is one you should see at least once. And the strong ending will make you want to see the sequel too - something I plan to do as soon as possible.
