Any movie from Private is now subject to the incredibly high standards which they themselves have set. At the very least, one can expect beautiful women having athletically positioned hardcore sex with anal scenes and double penetrations being the norm. Such is the case here with ERICA, the studio's latest release under their "Black Label" banner. Even though the movie met all my carnal visual needs, my problem with it is that ERICA did not arise my minimum expectations of excellence for any Private Video. Unlike other movies, I did not feel that this one rose to the cream of the porn crop,more… which is damn unusual for this purveyor of European erotica. ERICA is a great adult film, but mere greatness is the norm for this studio.
For those who care, the plot involves a "brilliant pickpocket" and "karate champion" (?) who is recruited by the authorities to help them track down some criminal. Naturally, all of this intrigue takes a back seat to the sex which seems to pop out of nowhere to disrupt the storyline (which was fine by me; I'm not much into foreign film noir anyhow).
Blonde and very curvy Monique Covet could easily be mistaken for the twin sister of fellow European actress Lea Martini. Both have that glamorous Nordic look which makes these babes so popular. However, with the bevy of blondes populating this movie (save for Dorothy, who kind of looks like a dark-haired Melissa Hill if you squint a bit and Rita who has a darker shade of blonde), the sex scenes have a uniform look about them, which is not too surprising considering that Monique is in almost every scene. Yet it is easy to confuse long-haired blonde Anita with shorter-haired blonde Tamara-N-Joy (I have no idea how that name was chosen) since both have dark roots and even darker penciled-in eyebrows. These women are gorgeous, but I prefer watching more brunettes than blondes in my porn. Unlike movies like THE GIGOLO, SEX THERAPY or SUMMER WIND, ERICA has lesser variety to keep one's attention at his or her fullest peak.
Like all Private videos, this title features six sex scenes, comprised of three straight guy-girl encounters (two with Monique, and one with Dorothy), a very hot lesbian vignette (again with Dorothy and Monique), and an outdoors threesome (featuring Anita and Monica) accompanied by a straight scene (with Rita), and indoors threesome (Cindy and Tamara). All the sex is performed with lots of eye contact with the camera, and the girls seem absolutely accustomed to having a dick placed between the cheeks (must be a European custom). Facials are always plentiful, but the girls don't swallow as prominently as you might find in, say, an Anabolic title. The lesbian affair (a relative rarity in most European imports) was one of my favorite scenes, beginning with a close-up of the two blonde and brunette beauties kissing as the camera opens itself up to a wider angle. Private excels in two girl, single guy threesomes but it would be nice to see the actresses involved with each other, instead of devoting all their energy to pleasing their male partner.
All the expected extras can be found on this disc: the trailer is well-edited and imaginative, with many eye-catching graphics and well-chosen scenes. The photo gallery has sharp images which aren't as polished as those big, glossy Private hardcore magazines, but have the same functional value. There is no behind the scenes featurette, which is unusual for this studio's DVDs. Video quality is nice, bright and clean, but the audio suffers from the familiar dubbing which consumers don't seem to care for too much (it bothers me, but not to any real great degree).
Don't get me wrong...ERICA is once again a fine flick from a studio known for greatness, but it just didn't strike me with awe the way most of their films do. But it's still better than 90% of the stuff out there...
