Leave it to the company run by Larry Flynt to take the most wholesome family in America and turn them into a bunch of horny, sex freaks. Not that that’s a bad thing...in fact, Director Will Ryder’s Not The Bradys XXX is the best adult spoof of 2007 and a whole lot of fun to watch.

There probably isn’t a person in America who isn’t at least moderately familiar with The Brady Bunch, which means that Not The Bradys has an immediate appeal to almost anyone and everyone out there old enough to watch a porno. Hustler has made some very smart casting choices heremore…, starting with bringing Mike Horner out of retirement for the Mike Brady role, and getting porn legend Ron Jeremy (in a non sex part) to play Sam, the butcher.

For the record, the rest of the cast is as follows: Alana Evans as Carol; Hillary Scott as Marsha; Aurora Snow as Jan; Leah Luv as Cindy; Benjamin Brat as Greg; James Deen as Peter; Mikey Butders as Bobby; and Lynn LeMay as Alice.

As the movie opens, Mike and Carol are talking about how the family is in some serious financial trouble, and the kids overhear the conversation. In true Brady fashion, they decide that Marsha and Greg will get jobs to help support the family. This leads to the first sexual set up of the movie, as Marsha (Hillary Scott) answers an ad for “Chatsworth Models” and winds up at a sleazy porno shoot being helmed by Lu Bricate. While there, Marsha discovers that her best friend Katie (Jasmine Byrne) is already shooting porn for money. Marsha leaves after allowing Lu to take some topless photos of her, but Bobby (Mikey Butders) isn’t far behind, and winds up shooting a porn scene with Jasmine.

Back at home, the Brady girls decide to have a car wash to raise some money for the family. Cindy (Leah Luv) is propositioned by Kurt Lockwood, who tells her he knows a way of making a lot more money faster, and offers her $200 for sex. Cindy can’t say no, and the two are soon going at it on a love seat.

Later, Jan (Aurora Snow) is out on a blanket in the backyard with her boyfriend, Ramone (Tee Reel). We get a nice interracial scene here, as Aurora gets stuffed in most of the standard sexual positions and takes a nice pop-shot into her mouth at the conclusion.

Peter Brady (James Deen) was always the awkward brother in the TV series, but in Not The Bradys he’s the luckiest brother – getting to have a threesome with Paulina James and Veronica Vega up in the boys’ bedroom in what turns out to be the hottest sex scene in the movie. While James is taking turns with the girls, we get to see a lot of lesbian action between the two ladies, and the scene ends with James jerking a nice-sized load into both their mouths.

In the next to last scene, we find out where the Brady kids get their high sex drives from when Mike (Mike Horner) and Carol (Alana Evans) make out on a couch. This is the most standard of the sexual scenes in Not The Bradys, but Mike and Alana have been doing this for a long time, and know how to make the action look good on camera.

You knew it was coming...yes, Not The Bradys ends with a semi-incestual (remember they’re just step brother and sister!) duo between Marsha (Hillary Scott) and Greg (Benjamin Brat), when Marsha decides she wants to make a porn movie and sell it for money. The scene takes place up in the girls’ bedroom and concludes with a nice facial that leads into Not The Bradys twist ending (which this reviewer isn’t going to spoil for you).

Is there a downside to Not The Bradys? Well, I suppose die-hard fans of the TV show will be upset that the creators didn’t go further in spoofing the original series. Most of the cast members here don’t do a very good job mimicking their television counterparts (the exception is Aurora Snow, who’s great as Jan), and aside from the ol’ “Marsha gets hit in the nose with a football” bit, and the look of the sets and clothing, there’s not much in the way of referencing the TV show. No moral speeches to the kids from Mr. Brady, no big rivalry between Marsha and Jan, no pork chops and apple sauce for dinner. Oh well, there’s always the inevitable sequel...which I hear Hustler is already going ahead with.

The movie is presented in the full-frame format, and while I’d usually complain about a release not being widescreen anamorphic in today’s day and age, the full-frame fits Not The Bradys perfectly, since it’s the format we all watched the TV series in. Audio is solid, but only in 2.0 Dolby and about average for a porn release.

Hustler, not one to usually give a lot in terms of extras on their titles, does a fantastic job on this release, giving us a full hour of behind the scenes footage (divided into two, 30-minute segments) that includes some interesting pontificating by Ron Jeremy on what’s wrong with the adult industry today. The DVD also contains individual interviews with cast members Hillary Scott, Alana Evans, and Aurora Snow, as well as interviews with the director and producer (together), and a look at the making of the soundtrack. Viewers also get a slide show, an option to watch the main menu graphics again, and four trailers (for the four volumes of Britney Rears, one of which is due in 2008).

One of this year’s adult releases that actually lived up to all the hype surrounding it, Not The Bradys is highly recommended, and should be a big hit among adult fans. Leading, I suppose, to the inevitable Not The Partridge Family movie somewhere down the road!
