Description

Director Nicholas Steele saddles up and gives adult fans a sexed-up version of the great American Western in Rawhide, a movie that is surprisingly weak in story content, but still provides perhaps the most visually pleasing experience I’ve ever had while watching an adult film.

Clocking in at 162-minutes, with 10 sex scenes total, Rawhide only suffers from the fact that it doesn’t have quite enough story to fill out its long running time. The movie takes place in 1875, as Carmen Luvana (playing a character named Bianca) arrives at her recently-deceased father’s ranchmore… to take over ownership of the place…and decide whether she wants to sell it or not. The ranch is currently being run by Steven St. Croix and Evan Stone, and Steven is worried that the young Carmen will sell away the ranch to a greedy businessman (played by Randy Spears in a role that is never truly developed by the script). Of course, before all is said and done, Carmen finds herself falling in love with both the land and with Evan Stone, and everyone lives happily ever after. But the fact that it takes almost three hours to tell such a simple tale may wear a bit on viewers…even though there are 10 decent sex scenes to help fill some of that running time.

Speaking of the sex, Rawhide does a great job of providing action that is hardcore enough for the “raincoater” crowd, yet romantic enough for couples who may be watching. While Carmen plays the young innocent who seems to be just beginning to explore her sexuality (including a lesbian scene early on with Kaylani Lei, and a fantastic movie-closing pairing with Evan Stone), Brooke Balentyne plays a rough-and-tumble young lady who seems more than a little experienced – and Brooke’s North Carolina accent fits perfectly with the role she is given here. If anyone in the cast deserves award consideration for their roles, Brooke is far and away at the top of the list. She gets it on with Steven St. Croix in the movie’s opening sex scene, and not long afterward is giving up the goods to ranch hand Joey Ray during a fireside romp in the grass. Other enjoyable sex couplings in Rawhide include Olivia Del Rio and Randy Spears joining up in the back of their horse-drawn carriage; and all-natural newcomer Natalia Wood seducing Steven St. Croix in a creek bed during the title’s next to last scene.

Also outstanding on this DVD set is the packaging and bonus material provided by Adam & Eve. The set comes with three discs – one containing the film, along with the director’s commentary; the second DVD containing a wealth of bonus material; and a CD disc containing the movie’s soundtrack, which includes an original song written for the film. As for the Extras disc, the supplements include two different behind the scenes segments (one directed and narrated by Evan Stone), two bonus scenes (a solo scene with Carmen, and a pairing between Olivia Del Rio and Steven St. Croix), bloopers, trailers, and a photo gallery.

Rawhide isn’t a perfect adult movie (careful viewers will be able to spot lightbulbs, telephone polls, tire tracks from cars, and even a jet plane in the sky – all items that were not yet invented in 1875 – at various spots in the film) but it is a visually pleasing one, and it has that hint of romanticism that both Western fans and fans of movies geared toward adult couples should love.
